Healing Journeys: What Is An Energy Coaching Session?

Welcome to Healing Journeys - a corner of Basmati.com where you can read about our team's real experiences with different holistic healing modalities. Trying a new type of healing can be overwhelming and you might first want to hear about someone's experience before taking the plunge. Healing Journeys will cover many different types of healing.

This particular subsection or series of Healing Journeys will be an exploration of energy healing with Basmati's Ursula Squire. Each week, I'll write about my newest experiences with energy healing. This blog will be quite candid, and often include documentation of my thoughts around a particular session. My goal is to share what I have learned and make available information for different healing modalities that you may be curious about or interested in trying.

The sessions I am doing for energy healing are working with two of the most incredible healers I've ever come across - Roger Schwartz, founder of Recover Your Heart, and Marji McDowall.

Full disclosure: I've never tried energy healing before, and I'm excited by holistic healing modalities. As a person who has anxious and OCD tendencies, but who doesn't feel that Western medicine is the right fit, I've decided to embark on this amazing journey, and I'd like to share with all of you!

What is an energy coaching session?

Energy coaching sessions are basically everything you’d want therapy to be, without the lines of questioning that take you back to unpleasant memories to explain “why” you feel a certain way.  Don’t get me wrong – you still end up uncovering motivations behind your actions, feelings, thoughts, etc. But the way an energy coaching session reveals these motivations (the “why’s”) is different.

I have regularly gone to therapy in the past, and in some ways benefited immensely from the process. But for me, the most significant aspect of therapy was a listening ear sans judgement. Energy coaching sessions come with the nonjudgement, but instead of “thinking” through a problem the way that therapy often encourages people to do, energy coaching sessions – and energy healing in general – encourages you to feel into the issues that come up. Of course there is still plenty of talking (especially for someone like me), but it’s often to discuss what feelings came up or are coming up through the process of the energy healing journey.

I’ve talked before about my anxiety and about my codependent proclivities, and naturally (for me) these comprise a hefty amount of my coaching session discussion topics. It’s funny though – because coaching sessions are about the feeling, the thoughts, etc. (as opposed to the more linear deconstruction that I associate with traditional therapy), there are often different – and even new! – perspectives that I am able to approach an issue with.

Sometimes I go into an energy coaching session knowing exactly what I want to talk about (if there’s been a prevalent issue in my life). Other times, I have no idea where the conversation will lead (though we always find something!).

There’s also a more “conversational” flow, which makes the experience more relaxing and naturally lead where it needs to. I like the organic, no pressure approach. And, since it’s more of an approach on clearing patterns, I don’t have to trudge through painful past memories in order to release them. This is actually a central focus for energy healing – releasing and clearing patterns and blockages regardless of where they came from. It’s about being present, which ultimately moves you forward. I don’t know about you, but I like my growth to happen looking forward.
