When you first start going to the gym, it may seem like absolutely everything poses a challenge. However, over time, those workouts tend to get a bit easier. Then, at some point, you’ll have to stop, and ask yourself—has my workout gotten too easy for me? Every person who goes to the gym wants to see results. So, you’ll have to figure out if your current workout is still helping you move toward your goals—and if not, switch it up and intensify things. Here's what to ask yourself.
1. Am I Breaking a Sweat?
2. Is My Heart Pumpin’ Enough...or Too Much?
3. Am I Tired After a Workout?
Most workouts consist of doing 10 reps at a time. If getting through those 10 reps is a breeze, it’s time to pile on the weight! By the 8th rep, I’m usually struggling. On the other hand, some people like to do more reps with less weight, in order to build leaner-looking muscle. Either way, after a good workout, you should feel proud, accomplished, and a little bit like spaghetti.
4. Do I Need Two-A-Days?
I know people who have gotten so into working out that they go to the gym not once, but twice a day. Totally bonkers. Ultimately, one workout per day should be plenty, unless you’re not making your time in the gym count the first time around.
5. Should I Increase the Intensity?
Your body will get used to the workouts you’re doing, which means you have no choice but to increase the intensity. To get results, go up in weight, increase that incline, and run faster and longer!
6. Am I Getting Results?
Results are by no means immediate. However, if you’ve been hittin’ the gym for months and months without seeing any positive transformation, it’s certainly time to reconfigure your workout.
