When I stopped drinking coffee, I found myself missing a hot beverage in the morning. Craving the robust flavor, I would try drinking only a few sips, having not had any coffee in a week. This was a bad idea. The uneasy, edgy feeling would hit me harder than having 3 cups in a day when I was an avid coffee drinker. Soon, I realized coffee and I no longer agreed.
That's when I turned to doctoring up my water. Adding healthy ingredients like ginger and lemon, I began to notice an improvement in mood and weight. Rather than pumping myself full of caffeine throughout the day, I decided to hit the reset button with deliciously refreshing detoxifying waters.
Whether you are looking for a healthier beverage replacement like I was, trying to lose weight, or simply feel like you want to flush out all the bad toxins ingested from an unhealthy diet, these 3 detoxing water recipes can help you get back to your center. Simply add all the ingredients into your water and drink your way to happiness.
1. Morning Wake-up Apple Cider Vinegar Mug
16 oz water, warm
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
½ tsp honey
twist of lemon wedge
Apple cider vinegar has been praised for a multitude of benefits. The acetic acid in ACV aids in weight loss, improves digestion, and can improve nutrient absorption. Drinking a diluted tablespoon in the morning is an excellent way to kick start the day.
2. Lemon and Ginger Detox
12 ounces water, hot
1 tbsp fresh ginger, peeled and grated
½ lemon, juice
Drink this in the morning, or throughout the day. The ginger does wonders for the digestion and detoxification. It is the root for an upset stomach and will get your metabolism going. The lemon not only adds a nice flavor, but it is also an excellent source of vitamins, alkalizes the body, and flushes nasty toxins out of the liver. This is one of my personal favorites.
3. All Day Citrus Infused Cucumber Water
3 liters water, cold
½ cucumber, sliced
1 orange, sliced
basil or fresh mint, optional
This is one to drink all day. The cucumbers help keep you hydrated while freshening your breath. They are also anti-inflammatory and contain antioxidants, which keep you healthy. The oranges add a nice citrus twist as well as antioxidants that promote healing. For an extra cleansing boost, add a few mint or basil leaves. It adds a nice refreshing kick.
When you are feeling loaded down with nasty toxins, making slight changes in your diet like drinking infused waters is a simple step to getting back on track to being healthy and happy once again.
