Healing Journeys: How Do I Know Energy Healing Is Working?

Welcome to Healing Journeys - a corner of Basmati.com where you can read about our team's real experiences with different holistic healing modalities. Trying a new type of healing can be overwhelming and you might first want to hear about someone's experience before taking the plunge. Healing Journeys will cover many different types of healing.

This particular subsection or series of Healing Journeys will be an exploration of energy healing with Basmati's Ursula Squire. Each week, I'll write about my newest experiences with energy healing. This blog will be quite candid, and often include documentation of my thoughts around a particular session. My goal is to share what I have learned and make available information for different healing modalities that you may be curious about or interested in trying.

The sessions I am doing for energy healing are working with two of the most incredible healers I've ever come across - Roger Schwartz, founder of Recover Your Heart, and Marji McDowall.

Full disclosure: I've never tried energy healing before, and I'm excited by holistic healing modalities. As a person who has anxious and OCD tendencies, but who doesn't feel that Western medicine is the right fit, I've decided to embark on this amazing journey, and I'd like to share with all of you!

How do you know energy healing is working?

“Time takes time” – an almost obnoxiously simple, yet paradoxically profound quote.

No one has ever accused me of being the most patient person. Or that patient at all, really. I want everything to happen now and I want it to line up with the imaginary scenarios in which I have pictured them. I want to be better, happier, richer, more grateful, less anxious, and more zen now.

And while those are all totally reasonable goals (in time), when I surrender to the bigger picture and allow things to flow into my life at the pace in which they were meant to, I feel peace.

Ironically, the concept of allowing things to happen as they are meant to has been both the practice in and product of much of my energy healing.

For me, I think my impatience comes primarily from three main branches: my proclivity to compare situations (whether of my own or others’), my obsessive tendencies, and my need to be in control (or, more realistically, my need to feel in control). Maybe your source of impatience is different. Maybe you have patience already. But I think the point is to allow things to happen.

Alternatively, I’m not a big fan of the “letting life happen to you” perspective, either, and I do think it’s important to be an active participant in your own life. Make life happen for you. And of course, finding the balance between these two existential philosophies/approaches is the million-dollar question (and one I don’t have the answer to), but I think awareness of the topic is the first step. And probably the second. And probably the millionth. It’s all about not only initially having, but also keeping that perspective.

Have I lost you? In other words, being proactive in my life (through energy healing, which translates into working on myself and practicing self-care) is a way in which I actively participate in my own life. However, It is equally important to allow these things to happen and these lessons to be learned in the way that they need to develop organically in order for them to resonate most effectively within me. I have to realize there is a purpose to the process. There’s also beauty in it. Sometimes the hardest lessons are the ones that shape you or mean the most.

And I think that this perspective is the best evidence I have that energy healing is working. It’s not a poof kind of thing. But, I also feel like if it were, it wouldn’t mean as much.

Consistently showing up for yourself. Practicing self-care and self-love. Articulating your feelings. Finding the thought processes behind emotions. Trusting in the timing of your life. These are the ways in which it works.
