Welcome to Healing Journeys - a corner of Basmati.com where you can read about our team's real experiences with different holistic healing modalities. Trying a new type of healing can be overwhelming and you might first want to hear about someone's experience before taking the plunge. Healing Journeys will cover many different types of healing.
This particular subsection or series of Healing Journeys will be an exploration of energy healing with Basmati's Ursula Squire. Each week, I'll write about my newest experiences with energy healing. This blog will be quite candid, and often include documentation of my thoughts around a particular session. My goal is to share what I have learned and make available information for different healing modalities that you may be curious about or interested in trying.
The sessions I am doing for energy healing are working with two of the most incredible healers I've ever come across - Roger Schwartz, founder of Recover Your Heart, and Marji McDowall.
Full disclosure: I've never tried energy healing before, and I'm excited by holistic healing modalities. As a person who has anxious and OCD tendencies, but who doesn't feel that Western medicine is the right fit, I've decided to embark on this amazing journey, and I'd like to share with all of you!

GRACE INTEGRITY May: Masculine and Feminine
May 16, 2017
The biggest difference that I noticed between this session and the first was not only the lack of resistance to get started, but the eagerness. I was looking forward to this session for the whole day. The first half of the session I concentrated on “getting settled” and relaxing into myself – clearing away the clutter, worries, and what-if’s from the day so far. That seems to be a real struggle for me, and I think for myself and anyone else new to this process, allowing an extra 20 minutes before the session to get settled makes sense to get the most out of the session as it’s happening.
Again, themes of self love were prevalent. I like focusing on myself and how much I love myself – and working on building that bond. I spend a lot of energy on my relationships with other people, but it’s funny how I don’t consciously spend that same amount of energy on myself.
The instructions for this session also noted to focus on the feminine and masculine energies inherent within me. Of course these energies aren’t feminine and masculine in the way western society defines them, but in the softness and nurturing of the divine feminine and the steadfastness of the divine masculine. I thought these two energies were interesting to focus on – if our audience listened to my second astrology reading with the amazing Andrea Bryant, they might remember that these were two themes that would be prevalent this moon cycle for me: delicacy and perseverance. I’m grateful I was given an opportunity to carve out the time and meditate on those qualities.
The second half of the session I actually fell asleep. While I hear that’s common with people doing energy healing and even meditation in general, it was notable for me. I never fall asleep doing something – even the deepest meditations that I’ve done. For me, going to sleep is a project full of tossing, turning, thinking, reviewing my day, and so on. So I’m really, really surprised that I fell asleep – I think it speaks to how relaxed I was and how relaxed and safe I’ve felt during this whole process.
I want to thank you both, Marji and Roger, for making this process a wonderful one. You are both truly healers. I’m looking forward to the next session!
