Easy Homemade Applesauce (Unsweetened)

Make the most of apple season this fall with my easy homemade applesauce! You can enjoy this recipe on its own, with pancakes or in other main dishes. If you like baking, applesauce can also be used as a healthy vegan alternative to eggs, butter or oil. I’m a big fan of cinnamon, but feel free to get playful with different spice combinations or leave them out altogether to experience the pure apple flavor.

*Makes about 2.5 cups*

Ingredients

3 medium apples

2/3 cup of water

¼ teaspoon powdered cinnamon (optional)

Directions

-Rinse, peel and chop the apples into small pieces.

-Place apples in a sauce pan and add the water.

-Heat to a simmer over a low to medium setting.

-Once the apples are simmering, add the cinnamon or other spices. Mix well.

-Simmer until the apples are softened and water is somewhat reduced, stirring occasionally.

-Now mash (or blend) the apples until the mixture becomes smooth. You can use a masher or a large fork if you don’t have a blender.

-Pour the applesauce into jars or bowls and allow to cool completely before placing in the refrigerator.
