I love to see how Yoga has become such a big part of the greater community in our culture. People from all walks of life can be found in the studio today. I see Yoga mats strapped around the backs of people on every block. It’s not just here in San Francisco anymore; studios can be found in almost every town in America. It is referenced on TV, in ads, books, and magazines. It’s everywhere. What a dream!

It’s officially summer; hibernation is over. Like other creatures, humans get out and about more during summer, and socializing becomes a favorite way to spend days in the summer heat. The warm weather gets people outside and brightens their mood, which lays the groundwork for prime friend-making season! It’s hard to make new friends, especially as adults, when we are no longer part of the built in social circles of school or summer camp. Stronger: On Yoga As A Healthy Addiction

It’s almost like a cliché at this point:  you quit drinking (or drugs or gambling or any addiction) and take up yoga. Yoga becomes your new addiction, your lifesaver, your replacement. Instead of reaching for a drink when you’re sad, stressed, or angry, you reach for your yoga mat. Instead of losing yourself under the waves of alcohol, you lose yourself to movement and breath. Both are a kind of escape, a reprieve from over-thinking. But while drinking enables the drinker to escape from her feelings, yoga enables the drinker to really feel his feelings.
