#WellnessWednesday - Yoga For Life: Week 150

Parivrrta Trikonasana – Revolved Triangle Pose

The fire element is present in our lives as heat and activity. It is present in our bodies in the form of digestion and absorption.  In colder climates during the winter months the body can begin to stagnate. Muscles grow stiff and our internal systems become sluggish due to a natural lack of the fire element. This is a normal cycle that helps to promote optimal wellness overall.  However, as the weather outside grows warmer and we being to engage in more activities, sometimes our bodies need a little extra help to get going. Yoga poses like Parivrrta Trikonasana are exactly the sort of thing the body needs to rekindle its own fire safely and effectively. While all twists are beneficial for the digestive organs, this pose builds heat while gently stimulating abdominal organs that need a little extra love.

What to do:

Stand with your right leg a comfortable distance behind the left with the heels aligned.

The feet form an approximately 45-degree angle.

On an exhale fold forward over the right leg.

Inhale, place the left hand on the floor.

Exhale, push the left hand down and gently open the body towards the right.

Reach the right finger tips strait up.

Stay for 5-10 breaths.

Then do the other side.

Modifications:

Grounded hand can be planted on a block or a chair.

Benefits:

  • Detoxifies & stimulates abdominal organs.
  • Strengthens and opens the legs.
  • Opens the rib cage for easier breathing.
  • Strengthens and stretches the back muscles.
