Hridaya Mudra - Heart Gesture

Mudras are hand gestures that direct the body's flow of energy. When used wisely during pranayama, asana, and meditation, they bolster the impact the practice can have on the energy body. Hridaya mudra redirects energy that might usually dissipate from the hands, back towards the heart space, nourishing and opening the anahatta, or heart, chakra. It is a powerful tool to use when faced with grief or great stress.

What To Do

  1. Sit in a comfortable position on the floor with the hips elevated on a folded blanket.
  2. Rest the hands, palms up, on the knees.
  3. Touch your middle two fingertips to your thumbs.
  4. Curl the first fingers, tucking them in against the base of the thumb.
  5. Keep the pinky finger pointing out.
  6. Breathe normally and let yourself relax.
  7. Focus your attention on your body, especially the front and back of the chest and the shoulders.
  8. Sit for 2-5 minutes.
