Unique Savasana Options

There are no real rules when it comes to savasana. Corpse pose is an homage to the meditative state the original practitioners of yoga committed to for hours after asanas. The purpose is self-reflection and meditation—but that doesn’t always look the same way. Some yogis find today’s most common pose aspect (laying down with legs and arms slightly spread) uncomfortable for their lower back, so they choose to bend their knees. Some prefer to sit in a seated position.

Embracing the Unknown

Life is continuously unfolding before us. Many of us try very hard to direct the course of life’s trajectory, which is not necessarily a bad thing. However, no matter how much we try to control, direct and predict where life will take us we can never fully know the future. In fact, the only thing we can count on is that life will definitely present us with unexpected twists and turns; why not learn to embrace the unexpected changes and find comfort in the unknowable future?

The Gaia Connection

Human civilization relies heavily and increasingly on technology in almost all areas of life. We accept the technological support as the ultimate solution for all the problems of humanity (and the world) - if we go just far enough. Granted,  technology makes things easier for us, even on a private plane. For example, it allows people all over the world to be connected in ways that would otherwise be impossible, and for that I am very grateful. Many things would not be possible for us without technological support. But have we not perhaps lost the big picture out of our sight?

Moves To Inner Peace Series: Abhaya Mudra

Fear is the enemy of peace. You cannot be in a state of fear and peace at the same time; one has to make room for the other.

In our modern world, stress and fear seem to be the ruler of the day. We fear our financial security. We fear for the safety of our children as they leave for school every morning. We are afraid of violence, being alone, never having enough.

There are also the deeper fears within us. The fear of others, the fear of being defined by others, fearing connections or lack thereof and fearing life’s challenges.

Honoring the Tamasic Nature: How Stagnation, Decay and Death Serve

In a previous article, When you need Rajas: The Ayurvedic Element of Change, the three main elemental principles (or Gunas) of yogic and Ayurvedic philosophy (Sattva, Rajas and Tamas) were introduced and spoken to. In this article I want to explore the tamasic nature of stagnation, decay and death and how honoring this element in our lives can serve us wildly.

Relaxing your Brain Waves through Meditation

Things move fast during the course of a day, and sometimes you can barely stop to take a breath. Meditation is a surefire way to relieve some of these stressful moments, and it has many healthful benefits, too.

Mother Earth’s Medicine Cabinet: The Truth About Aztec Clay (Part 1)

Did you know that the use of medicinal clay dates back to prehistoric times? The use of clay is making a comeback when it comes to cosmetics and medicine, and for good reason!

The Science Behind The Clay

The Force That Moves Waves

What is this force that moves nature? That brings life to a wave? If you have a smart scientific explanation I’m afraid that won't suffice. The force I’m talking about that comes crashing through this wave arrives from way before – it is greater than the phenomena of a wave. This is the idea of the force that comes from before the ocean became the ocean. It is the force that aligned the laws of physics into their obvious place of beingness from seeming nothing -- the force that animates matter, creates galaxies and explodes big bangs.

5 Health Benefits of Social Events and Activities
