Many people love their morning cup of coffee and couldn’t fathom getting through their day without it. While there are some known health benefits to coffee, most people don’t know how to get the most out of this morning ritual. They negate any health benefits by taking it alone on an empty stomach or combining it with too much sugar, artificial sweeteners, and creamers. Instead you can make your morning cup quite delicious and health promoting – it’s all about what you put in it!
To get the most out of my morning beverage, I add a blend of spices that enhance digestion (cardamom and ginger), reduce the acidity of coffee (cardamom), boost the immune system (ginger, cloves), balance blood sugar (cinnamon), and enhance mental clarity (cardamom, vanilla). Add in some healthy fats from coconut oil or ghee for enhanced energy, brain function, and metabolism boost. Make it a complete balanced meal by adding a clean organic protein powder. This turns your coffee into a balanced meal, giving you immediate, stable energy keeping you full and satisfied for hours. The combo of protein and healthy fats blended in helps to mitigate spikes in your blood sugar and stress hormones.
A great substitute for unhealthy things commonly found in your regular coffee!
To begin, brew your favorite organic, fair trade coffee and have a blender nearby to froth it all up. The blending is key in order to emulsify all the ingredients into a smooth, creamy, healthy latte.
I’ve included my favorite recipe below. Of course, feel free to make adjustments as to your taste/dietary preferences.
