Sagittarius New Moon: The Questions Are Worth Experiencing

Sagittarius New Moon—Dec. 17, 2017 Welcome to another New Moon and an opportunity to understand the energies for the month and take a proactive stance in what is best for you! This month’s New Moon takes place in the sign of Sagittarius. Sagittarius is a fire sign that uses her quest for many different kinds of experiences to answer questions about life. The symbol of Sagittarius is the Centaur: half horse and half human. The horse portion represents the wilder side of being free and needing to roam. Being a mutable sign, Sagittarius is changeable and so the human segment of the Centaur represents the wisdom that comes from all those experiences. Sagittarius seeks answers to questions about the loftier aspects of life, such as philosophy, law, and religion. Seeking becomes Sagittarius’s “reason for being” and when answers come she will often be noted as the Teacher. But only briefly, for Sagittarius is very motivated by moving on to a new vision quest. A New Moon in Sagittarius reminds us that there are hidden aspects of the sign that we should be aware of. Sagittarius can be scattered, irresponsible and inconsiderate. Her direct manner can be hurtful with her point-blank honesty. She can project blame onto others and refuse to look within. Being aware of the downside of Sagittarius energy, we can set our intention for more self-discipline and tactfulness in dealing with others. We can listen to and be more appreciative of what others have to say. In this way, the optimistic, tolerant, enthusiastic, and fun-loving side of Sagittarius can shine. A conjunction with Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and harmony helps us to idealize our ideas and vision. Venus in this aspect can show us how to expand our horizons through relationships. Be aware that Venus’s aspect to Mars could be a mild irritant and you could experience some volatility, restlessness, or a desire to run away. Just keep in mind that the goal is for long-term harmony within the relationship. Mercury retrograde is also in Sagittarius, giving you an opportunity to rethink ideologies that you thought to be true. Discussions that allow you to expand your mind and feel more deeply (Mercury semi-sextile Jupiter) are great for reviewing some of your past experiences for meaning and wisdom. Seeking in this manner will provide new truths that are much needed. Pluto’s recent exact in conjunction with the north node in Leo provides important information about our current structure and our future. Pluto in Capricorn is carrying out the destruction of our system to bring about transformation and rebuilding of a better system. Pluto’s aspects to the nodes cause a discomfort between our past, future, and where we are now. We shouldn’t ship over the difficulty we feel with where we are headed. Our future requires the balance of the personal freedom and expression of the individual with the needs of all of humanity. The pain and suffering we have experienced from our past has partly been due to either not having adequate knowledge or “overlooking” what’s been really going on. The future requires a willingness to express our own individuality and take risks. The vision and wisdom we seek this month go a long way in determining our future. This month is a perfect opportunity to refine your purpose or reason for being. All your experience in life so far can enable you to trust your intuition and higher consciousness. Communicate with an open mind and heart and remember to listen to others attentively and hear the meaning behind the words. Be spontaneous and let Sagittarius’s energy for freedom and adventure bring you a closer connection to who you really are.
