March Full Moon: Pisces & Virgo

A full moon occurs when the sun and the moon are opposite to one another from earth’s perspective. This gives us the opportunity to receive the moon’s full reflection of light, energy, and beauty.

During the full moon of March 12, 2017, the sun shines its light through the energy of Pisces onto the moon, who in turn reflects her light under the influence of Virgo. We, on Earth, receive the energies of both the Sun in Pisces and the Moon in Virgo.

Opposing signs are said to create conflict because of the differing energies; in this case between watery Pisces and earthy Virgo. The water element uses emotions and a type of built-in sonar (a gut feeling) that allows us to assess a situation according to the undercurrents present, rather than what is visible on the surface. Earth, on the other hand, is an energy deeply rooted in physical reality and relies on tangible and pragmatic information. We can resolve oppositional energies by blending and harmonizing the two.

Recently, we have been receiving a boatload of water energy through the sign of Pisces. The Sun, Neptune, and Mercury are also encouraging us to use feelings, intuition, imagination, and dreams to express ourselves creatively, which allows us to connect more fully with ourselves and each other.

But this full moon in Virgo is asking us to refine what we’ve been learning even further.

Virgo, the Harvest Goddess, is the story of a rite-of-passage into maturity and discernment. She represents the mastery and skills of one who has honed their craft to perfection. After gathering all the information available she cherry picks the most important and assimilates her knowledge creating a resource she can use in her work of nourishing and caring for the world. It is only then that she takes her exalted position of the goddess that can unleash her power by picking the exact moment for harvesting the ripened fruit.

Just as the harvest goddess discerns the exact moment that the ripened harvest is to be cut for maximum nutrition for the benefit of the community, this full moon asks us to examine what we have learned over the past 6 months. To separate the wheat from the chaff, and to keep what is nutritious, and beneficial in serving the greater good.

We have a unique opportunity to analyze what’s valuable about ourselves and discard what we would like to change. Then we can use our “healthy” new awareness for the benefit of others. Virgo reminds us that we are at our greatest when we are in service to others.

Added note:  The full moon occurs at 22 degrees Virgo. The master number 22 represents confidence, power, pragmatism, ambition and discipline. Certainly, this energy is capable of turning the lofty dreams of Pisces to the full potential of Virgo.
