Know Your Minerals: Are You Getting Enough Potassium?

What do avocado, acorn squash, and wild salmon all have in common? They are examples of foods that contain the highest amounts of potassium, an essential nutrient used to maintain fluid and electrolyte balance. In this case, potassium helps to keep the body hydrated and collaborates with sodium to support cellular function.

5 Acne-Fighting Foods You Need To Eat

I know how annoying acne can be. In fact, it can be downright depressing. Really bad acne can make you want to stay home all day and make you feel like everyone is looking at your skin. Recently, I have been dealing with terrible breakouts, which is uncommon for me. While I've always had acne, it has recently gotten a lot worse. I have a sneaking suspicion as to why: I tried to cure it topically and it wound up backfiring in my face (literally).

A 10-Step Plan towards Healthier Eating

If you are trying to get healthier, inside out, the first thing you need to focus on is home-cooked meals. It's important to get organized well enough to be able to cook those healthy meals at home. Here’s some help…

Natural Condiments: Make Your Own Peanut Butter & Jelly

Condiments are great. There are so many of them, and they can always make or break a dish. Two of my favorite condiments are peanut butter and jelly, a diehard classic. One day, while eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, I wondered how easy it would be to make my own peanut butter and jelly condiments from scratch. You’ll be delighted to know that it’s very easy (and tasty!). It just takes a little time, patience, and dedication. The best part is, you have full control over the ingredients list.

Summertime’s a’comin’!  The kids are out of school, the weather is warmer – and you’re probably thinking about that summer vacation you’ve got planned.

Don’t have a summer holiday on the books yet?   Consider a different kind of vacation – a farm stay.

5 Forageable Plants You Should Know About

We've grown so used to supermarkets providing food for us that we have forgotten how to find food for ourselves. Well, not everyone (but the majority of people have). Believe it or not, people actually trust the grocery store more than the plants growing around their home. Whenever I even suggest the idea of foraging to most people, they look at me like I have three heads. The problem with grocery stores is you cannot see the process the food undergoes. You cannot watch it grow, know who picked it, or understand how it was treated.

Fun, Festive Family Activities For May

You guys, it’s May! Spring is in the air; summer is on the horizon. As the weather warms up, I’m sure families everywhere will be looking for things to do, especially once school’s out for summer. Anybody else suddenly singing along to that classic Alice Cooper song, too?

May has always been super exciting for me because it meant that I had the care-free, toasty summer months to look forward to. However, since I graduated from college last May, it looks like from here on out, the excitement won’t be quite the same. Oh, well. Summer is still magical. Cheers to students!

"Expiration" Dates Decoded

Snack time! You open the fridge and grab a tub of yogurt. Oh dear, you see that the “Best by” date was three days ago. Shucks! What do you do?

       C. Look and smell for oddities, then eat it if it doesn’t seem off.

       D. Close the fridge and grab an apple.

Correct answer: C.
