9th annual Gardens Gone Native Garden Tour 2019

The 2019 Gardens Gone Native is a free, self-guided tour featuring home gardens in and around Sacramento and Yolo counties. Gardens are comprised of at least 50% California Native plants. Participants will be inspired by a variety of gardens that showcase the beauty, versatility, and hardiness of California native plants as well as their role in water efficient landscapes. A diversity of garden styles can be viewed, including: small city lots to large semi-rural parcels, professional and homeowner designs, and hundreds of native plant species.

DIY Home garden permaculture design

Are you a home owner with an eye toward urban homesteading and sustainability? Inspired, but seeking a way to organize and approach design? Then join us for this fun class covering the major aspects of permaculture design. The hope is to impart to students the concepts of site assesment, zones of use, rainwater harvesting, food forest design, companion planting, passive soil management, drip irrigation, and more.

Tree Planting Event

This is the third in a series of plantings to increase the tree canopy cover in West Roseville with over 1200 trees! This will imrove our urban forest which provides benefits to the whole community. Improved open space areas for biking, running, outdoor activities, wildlife habitat, increased water and air particulate filtration, slows water runnoff & improves soil retention- which both work towards flood prevention. Trees also create cooler temperatures, keeping energy costs lower for the city and for residents. Come join us for a clean green event!

Save Plants, Save the Planet, Save Ourselves

Native plant ecosystem services and how they can fix almost everything Speaker: Emily Brin Roberson People who think that native plants give us beautiful wildflowers plus habitat for pollinators and other wildlife are correct. However, native plants offer much more than attractive landscapes. Native plant communities also deliver ecosystem services that are essential to the health and security of human societies and economies. In recent years, ecologists and economists have documented the enormous flow of invaluable ecosystem services from plant communities.
