Fitness

Rose was an overweight and out of shape kid, not very athletic and the "last one to get picked for the dodge ball team". She really just wanted to be skinny, and tried pretty much everything until learning about nutrition and fitness, and finding that proper exercise and eating healthy really DOES work!  As the years went by, she realized that getting healthy was even better and more important than getting skinny, and that feeling healthy and fit makes life a whole lot easier. She truly believes that fitness can be fun - it's just a matter of finding what you like (or what you will do in order to reach your goals), and having fun people to work out with. She wanted to create a place for health and fitness that felt warm and welcoming, so she opened Healthy Habits Studio in 1993. Since then, the Studio has continued to offer cutting edge programs, and has joined the Fit Body Boot Camp family, adding workouts for maximal results in minimal time. She is a master trainer for the fitness companies listed below. Please email her for information about the trainings or information on how to book a course at your location.

Dynamic Postural Integration and Structural Integration and Attunement “Man’s general way of thinking of the totality, i.e. his general world view, is crucial for overall order of the human mind itself. If he thinks of the totality as constituted of independent fragments, then that is how his mind will tend to operate, but if he can include everything coherently and harmoniously in an overall whole that is undivided, unbroken and without border (for every border is a division or break) then his mind will tend to move in a similar way, and from this will flow an orderly action within the whole.” – David Bohm, Wholeness and the Implicate Order Our embodiment is the song of the universe and the truth of our being. It is the habitat of our native self, the return to our natural way. The self to whom the unknown is a breathtaking opportunity, and to whom vulnerability is the mark of trust in our aliveness. The self whose senses thrive undivided, and to whom being is a beautiful event. The Tau of Equipoise is a Revolution of Embodiment, through which we reclaim our organic physical intelligence, our globally attuned sentience and our integrity of communion with all that is. It is a conduit through which we unify our physical, mental and spiritual expressions into the holistic alchemy of our totality. Equipoise is our natural, harmonic state of fluid equanimity as wholeness within the greater whole. This synergistic, omni-tensegrity is the true nature of our reality, the sustenance of our inter-relationship with all that is. Our reality is fractal in nature, an infinite expression of scale. Our embodied form arises from within the same resonance that generates all form in our universe, flowing through an intrinsically coherent schematic. We are as equally a part of the stars, the forests, the wind and the sun, as we are humanity. Our senses are attuned with the hawk and the dolphin, the catepillar and the buffalo. This is our birthright, our harmonic way of being. In The Life of Ceiba SebastianQ: Describe yourself in three words:A: "Come bearing gifts"Q: What is unique to you about your work: A: "My work is unique in that I am passionately committed to bridging the gap between the current binary, or duality paradigm, into the true nature of our three dimensional reality, which is global, holistic and inclusive by nature. The conventional mathematical and scientific models which are used to measure, quantify and project our reality back to us, describe our existence in flat lines, in linear planes that have no span, no around-ness and no through-ness. Planes that intersect in localized points, rather than in the fullness of fusion that is our true, natural design. Our fully attuned, tri-dimensional synergy, is our native vitality, our inherent source of energy through which the totality of our aliveness expresses. It is the collapse of our radial symmetry, our fully coherent synergy, that invites dis-ease and dysfunction into our physical, mental and spiritual realm."Q: Where do you see earth/humanity going in the next ten years: A: "I see us rising into our true nature, into the totality of who we really are. I feel that this is the dawn of our renaissance as universal, inter-beings."Q: What is the importance of community/relationships? A: "The old adage, “no man is an island’ rings true now more than ever. As we are learning in the most radical way, isolation is dis-integrative and dis-empowering. We are beings of connectivity, this is our naturally harmonic way."Q: What is your approach to communication with your clients? A: "I have a very D.I.Y approach! I have designed the Tau of Equipoise specifically to empower people, so that they may deeply and harmonically commune within their physical, mental and spiritual being, in fully coherent, fully resonate synthesis. I make sure that they are able to sustainably apply the tools that I offer, rather than being totally dependent upon me. Thus, my clients tend to be those who are looking for a very practical, very applicable approach, in order for them to wholly direct their own experience in this very physical reality!"

Yoga

Alice's Bikram yoga journey began in 2001 out of sheer curiosity. She had heard about it in the media and was ready to balance years of working out in the gym with weights with some serious hot, sweaty stretching! She fell in love with the discipline and focus of the practice. After 5 years of being a student, and referring everyone she knew to take this yoga, she realized she had a calling to teach it. Being a yoga teacher seemed like a great complement to her profession in the health field as a registered dietitian. Alice completed Bikram’s Teacher Training in Fall 2006 in Los Angeles—the last training held at the old Headquarters. She enjoys teaching yoga as much as she enjoys taking class. Witnessing students working hard in class is so inspiring, she is energized by their hard work, and turns around and gives that energy right back to the students—it is a wonderful feeling! This practice has helped her overcome years of anxiety. It was challenging in the early years of her practice, when she felt like she could not stay in the room. However, with time, consistency of practice, and patience with herself, she has come so far. No one can really realize the other benefits one receives besides the obvious…the flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, etc…until you become a regular practitioner. Once that happens, a door opens to a whole new you. You will learn about yourself and the art of self-acceptance, or if there are things you would like to change, those will come into play, as well. So come inside the hot room, Bikram’s Torture Chamber, as he so lovingly calls it, and see what’s in store for you.  Guarantee if you keep coming to class, you will gain much more than flexible hamstrings!  In addition to yoga, Alice still enjoys all the other elements of a fitness regime, which includes weight lifting (she earned her Pro Card in Fitness with the WBFF in 2011), fitness classes like bootcamps, spin, Zumba, swimming, walking and jogging with her 2 boxers, and spending time with her family. She loves cooking and wants more time to do it! She always makes time for a little bit of chocolate in her life -- she considers that a priority! At one point in her career, she worked part time and was able to teach much more yoga at many studios around town, but now working full time, she keeps it close to home only on the weekends in Folsom and Granite Bay, California.  Her favorite pose has always been Half Tortoise. She craves the stretch to her spine, arms, and shoulders, by this time in class…putting everything back in alignment!  Her wish for students when they take a class is to feel empowered, strong, and at peace with themselves and others. Learning to love yourself more and more each class, and to have more compassion towards others with wherever they are in their journey…we all have different ones, and that’s OK. Enjoy that 90 minute gift you give yourself every time you step on that mat! Namaste.

Melissa Domingo

Melissa Domingo

Yoga

Melissa began practicing Bikram Yoga in June 2009. She stumbled into a studio that opened up across the street from where she lived. She had no clue what Bikram yoga was and had never done any kind of yoga before. Her first class she walked into wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt -- boy was she in for a surprise. Melissa was hooked immediately after the first day. It was a challenge, and she loved it. At the time, she was going through a slight depression. She felt alone, lost and had no direction. Going to class gave her a reason to wake up and as soon as class was finished, she was already anticipating the next day’s class, so eager to be able to go deeper into the postures. Walking into a Bikram studio was/is like a breath of fresh air, literally. She lived in Las Vegas at the time and worked in the toxic environment of the casino industry. Melissa was only 4 months into my practice when she decided she wanted to go to Teacher Training. She is a true believer that everything happens for a reason. Teacher training was located in Las Vegas in 2010. She could not think of any reason not to go. During that year after graduating Teacher Training, she mainly taught in Las Vegas, but took time to travel and teach as well to other studios located in Vancouver B.C. , Florida, Alabama, and Hawaii. She was also visiting South Lake Tahoe, and realized that there were many Bikram studios located in the Sacramento area. In August 2011, she quit her full time job as a Blackjack dealer in Las Vegas and decided to relocate to where she could make Bikram yoga my career. It is her goal to motivate, encourage, inspire, and educate students. "You've got to find what you love and that is as true for work as it is for lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking and don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you've found it.” Steve Jobs, Stanford Commencement Address, 2005

Matt Guyton

Yoga

Matt started Bikram Yoga because of a repetitive strain injury due to computer use. He was, at one time, in 24 hours of pain and not only questioning his ability to function in his career, but also questioning his ability to function on a day to day basis. One morning, Matt realized simple tasks were becoming increasingly difficult such cutting a banana or putting on his shoes and socks. When he found Bikram Yoga, he immediately loved it. It was just him, no weights, no props, just him…and the heat of course. Matt couldn’t wait to be five years into the practice. That was at the beginning of 2004, and now he is a teacher and competing in the yoga asana championships. At one point, Matt believed 100% that he would be suffering from his injury for the rest of his life. No more. The fact is that with this yoga, you can do anything.

Kathryn Body

Yoga

Kathryn took her first Bikram yoga class in San Carlos, CA in 1996. She was hooked from the very first class. She found the practice enjoyable and very challenging. Kathryn continued to practice through her first pregnancy in 1998. The breathing exercises helped her through both of her high risk pregnancies. Kathryn worked as a textile designer in San Francisco and the surrounding areas for many years. As a busy working mom, she continued to make time for her practice, commuting in the early hours to San Francisco for yoga, then work. The yoga practice has benefitted her tremendously over the years, allowing her to stay calm in stressful situations. Physically, she has enjoyed good health as a result. At the age of 22yrs, Kathryn was told by her then arthroscopic surgeon that she would not be able to resume her usual physical activities as a result of a broken patella, with loss of all cartilage in her right knee resulting from a car accident -- what she considers one of her “wake up calls”. Through dedication to her yoga practice, she was pleasantly surprised to find she had strengthened the muscles around her knee and would no longer need to have knee replacement surgery. When you hear the instructors say “Lock the knee” embrace it, trust it, do it! She has received so much from this practice that in Spring of 2006 she decided it was time to give back. Kathryn has been teaching Bikram yoga ever since and have found even more joy and passion through the sharing of this amazing yoga practice with others.
