Bangladesh's Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Rajshahi region organised a day-long workshop as part of its programme taken to produce aromatic fine rice for export abroad.

The fine rice was very costly in the international market and by using modern technology and sophisticated husking machines, varieties of fine rice except Basmati could be exported abroad.

Meanwhile, aromatic fine rice remained a long time tradition of Rajshahi region for centuries. But a US farm patented the rice by branding it 'Kasmati' and barred the Basmati rice from export.
