Why I Choose Self-Healing

The argument surrounding alternatives to over-the-counter medicines has waged for years, and with the prices surrounding prescription drugs today, some have simply turned their attention to things ranging from herbs to extensive exercise to spiritualism to aid them in their quest towards self-healing.

My mother is a certified hypnotherapist; she has been for over six years, but long before completing her studies, she believed and instilled into her own life (and the lives of her children) the idea that all illness was self-made. In other words, there is no such thing as true illness; merely one’s mental state and the convincing of one’s mind that something harmful is occurring.

I remember as a child coming home from school with a headache. The idea was that man-made medicines were unnatural, and therefore unsafe as they merely masked the symptoms or the problem at hand. There were days when that headache continued into the late hours, and would only dissipate following a night of uninterrupted sleep. In my younger years, I looked at these moments with resentment; now, as an adult, I view these same moments with an air of pride. These were points in my life where I was given the opportunity to grow stronger, and fully enforce the principal that I now firmly believe in… That all physical ailments are, in fact, mental ailments. One’s mind controls all.

Today, I am fully capable of making my own decisions regarding lifestyle and health, and believe it or not, I still try to avoid medicine whenever I can. As I’ve aged, I have faced far less illness than most; even bouts with the common cold have become rare, and yet I’m one who has taken very little medicine. How is this possible? It’s simple… My body has simply adapted to defend itself.

When one takes such medicinal remedies, the elements released into one’s system can often times get in the way of anti-bodies working as they’re naturally built to work. These anti-bodies remove foreign entities from one’s physicality: viruses, germs, etc. Without these anti-bodies, we’d likely cease to exist, and yet excessive medicine consumption actually trains the body to become reliant. Over time, one’s immunity suffers, and eventually relies on the ingestion of a pill rather than natural anti-bodies.

In today’s era, we are constantly being introduced to new ailments and the therapies designed to heal them. From social anxiety to restless leg syndrome, there seems to be a pill for everything. Now, we have to ask ourselves, “Do these pills really work?” and “Do these illnesses really exist?” Whether they do or don’t is hardly the issue. The matter is that other means to remove one’s symptoms exist and have worked well before. If your legs are restless, go for a jog or a fast walk and put all that pent-up energy to good use. Pretty soon, your legs will be so tired they’ll think twice before bouncing up and down at the work station. Do you feel stressed out or anxious? Practice meditation, yoga, or martial arts. Pills and alcohol are not the answer. Your mind simply needs something to do, so give it what it wants. Pretty soon, that anxiety won’t just disappear in spurts. It’ll vanish into thin air. It is this sort of mental control and satisfaction that has the power to remove whatever stands in your way.

Your mind is the most powerful thing on Earth… Maybe it’s time to use it.
